This year's Legislature passed, and the Governor signed, legislation allowing physicians flexibility in dealing with patient wishes regarding end of life treatment and care. It is therefore more important now that you discuss with your doctor whether he or she is prepared to honor your wishes as expressed in living wills and POST (physician orders for scope of treatment) directives. In light of this statute, we urge our clients to be especially diligent in having an up to date general health care power of attorney and living will on file not only with our office but in your medical records.
